WWG Engineering Supports OculloSpace's AZADRocket Mission as Mission Partner
09 Oct 2026Industry collaboration supports OculloSpace's first experimental sounding rocket, which achieved an apogee altitude of 10 km in Oman.
Singapore, 9 October 2026 – WWG Engineering Pte. Ltd. supported OculloSpace's AZADRocket programme as a Mission Partner for the Karman X1 mission, featuring AZAD "The Dreamer", OculloSpace's first experimental sounding rocket.
The rocket lifted off from Etlaq Spaceport in Oman on 1 October 2026 and achieved an apogee altitude of 10 km, marking an important milestone in OculloSpace's experimental rocketry programme and its ongoing development of aerospace engineering and launch capabilities.
Through this sponsorship, WWG Engineering supported the mission as part of a broader collaborative effort to advance engineering innovation and experimental aerospace technology. The mission brought together industry partners from Singapore, Oman and Australia, demonstrating the value of international collaboration in pursuing engineering projects.
The Karman X1 flight provided valuable operational experience and flight data to inform OculloSpace's future rocket development activities. While the upper-stage parachute did not deploy, launch operator Stellar Kinetics MCT reported that the majority of the mission objectives were achieved, providing useful insights for subsequent development.
The mission also carried an educational purpose. Alongside its technical objectives, AZAD “The Dreamer” provided hands-on exposure to engineering, payload development and mission operations for engineers from across ASEAN and the GCC. OculloSpace runs practical engineering education programmes with national space agencies, government institutions and industry partners, and has trained approximately 500 students in engineering and space technology through its national satellite and space technology programmes. Supporting the practical development of the next generation of engineers was part of what made the mission worth taking part in.
Building on the Karman X1 mission, OculloSpace is progressing towards AZAD-2, its next-generation experimental sounding rocket targeting an altitude of 100 km, commonly associated with the Karman line, which is widely recognised as the boundary of space. Future development will build on the lessons learned from the Karman X1 mission and remain subject to further engineering validation, testing and regulatory approvals.
WWG Engineering is pleased to have supported the AZADRocket programme as a Mission Partner. The collaboration highlights the value of industry partnerships in supporting engineering innovation and the continued development of aerospace technology.
The Karman X1 mission represents an important step in OculloSpace's development journey, with future opportunities for collaboration in aerospace engineering, technology demonstrations and research initiatives.
